KASW is a government-approved organization in accordance with Article 46 of the Social Welfare Service Act, which endeavors to improve the quality of the social work profession and to protect the rights of Korean social workers by providing opportunities for social workers to further develop their professional knowledge and skills, and by working to influence legislation to protect the rights of social workers and their clients and to improve the overall social welfare system in Korea.
The Symbol of the Association
The upper half of the body with both arms up, which takes the form of the alphabet U (YOU), symbolizes the importance of individuals that make a society as well as a hopeful future.
Bodeumi
The imaginary character Bodeumi, meaning a warm hugger, visualizes the calling and the warm heart of a social worker.

The motion of the water drops symbolizes the social worker with a progressive passion and hope. The various colors of the drops express the variety of areas that social workers are working in, and the image of the drops is our message of development, improvement, expectation, and hope. Dispute Resolution Committee
We are playing the role of a social moderator who tries to resolve various regional disputes and conflicts.
Green Projects on Improvement of Welfare Facilities
In cooperation with the Green Promotion Agency of the Korean Forest Service, we are working on green projects to improve welfare facilities. The projects include forest composition, rooftop garden installation, and support for horticulture therapy.

Issue of Licenses of Social Workers
In accordance with Article 25, Paragraph 2 of the Social Welfare Law, under the direction of the Minister of the Department of Health, Welfare and Family Affairs, we are issuing social work licenses.
Conducting the National Test for Social Worker Class 1
In order to improve the expertise and social recognition of social workers, we have conducted the annual national test for social worker class 1 since 2003. (Article 3, Paragraph 2 of the Social Welfare Service Act and Announcement 2008-121 of the Department of Health, Welfare, and Family Affairs.)
Social Work Continuing Education
In order to improve areas of specialty and expertise, we are conducting further education for social workers engaged in corporate social welfare and/or social welfare facilities under the direction of the Minister of Health, Welfare, and Family Affairs, which has contributed to the expertise of about 50,000 social workers nationwide.
Production of Specialized Social Workers
We develop training programs for specialized social workers in various fields, and we cooperate with many other institutions to produce further specialized social workers as a part of our effort to improve the expertise of social workers.

Plan for Social Workers Mutual Aid Association
In order to improve social workers' welfare, we plan to establish the Social Workers Mutual Aid Association.
Activities for Social Workers' Benefits
Several committees are working to improve professional benefits. We also develop policies and programs for salary improvements as well as better professional opportunities.
Social Workers' Day and a Soccer Competition for the Flag from the Minister.
We honor all the social workers serving in many areas by observing Social Workers' Day. We also host a soccer competition for the Flag from the Minister to raise the morale of Korean social workers.
The Han-Mack Prize
In honor of the social worker Si-Moon Ryu, we have awarded the Han-Mack prize to those who have critically contributed to the improvement of our nation's social welfare.
The Social Worker Scholarship
We have selectively awarded the Social Worker Scholarship to promising students in the field of social welfare.

Training Abroad for Social Workers
In order to improve expertise and leadership, we provide social workers with opportunities for training abroad so that they learn from and network with those in advanced countries.
Cooperation with Domestic Institutions
We are engaged with many domestic institutions and academic societies to stay up-to-date about welfare related issues. We also conduct research on social welfare policy, welfare legislation, and other related issues.
Cooperation with International Institutions
As a member of IFSW we have participated in the International Social Workers Conferences and hosted international forums. We have also supported relations with Russian and Japanese welfare groups to improve international cooperation on welfare related issues.
Running the Website (welfare.net) for Social Workers
Through the website Welfare.Net we provide information on welfare issues in real time as well as opportunities for networking and cooperation.
